The issues we're fighting for in the 2026 election.

Clean Water

The Blue Beacons are fighting for safe drinking water across the Cape Fear region. Chemours pollutes our river and groundwater with PFAS like GenX, and our current representatives aren't stopping it! And, taxpayers are bearing the burden of the cleanup!

Why it matters here

Hundreds of thousands of people in the Lower Cape Fear depend on this water. Families in New Hanover, Brunswick, and Pender counties should not have to live with contamination, higher bills, and ongoing health concerns.

What we support
  • Full cleanup of contaminated groundwater, creeks, and river sediments.

  • Chemours paying for filtration, monitoring, and health studies.

  • Stronger protections so no company can dump PFAS into our water again.

What you can do

Growth should make our communities stronger, not less safe. In coastal North Carolina, unchecked development is adding traffic, worsening flooding, and threatening evacuation routes.

Why it matters here

Brunswick County is one of the fastest-growing counties in the state, and that growth is putting pressure on roads, drainage, schools, and emergency planning. We cannot keep approving new development without the infrastructure to support it.

What we support
  • Development tied to real road, drainage, and evacuation plans.

  • Limits on building in flood-prone and evacuation-critical areas.

  • Investment in resilient infrastructure and protected wetlands.

  • Residents having a real voice in land-use decisions.

What you can do

Smart Growth
Affordability

North Carolinians are working hard, but everyday costs keep rising. We need an economy that lowers prices, rewards work, and helps families get ahead—not just the wealthy and well-connected.

Why it matters here

Housing, health care, food, and utilities are squeezing family budgets across the state. North Carolina still has a $7.25 minimum wage, and many households are paying more while wages lag behind.

What we support
  • Higher wages and stronger protections for working people.

  • Lower costs for housing, health care, child care, food, and utilities.

  • Tax and budget policies that put families and seniors first.

  • Growth that raises paychecks, not just corporate profits.

What you can do
  • Talk with neighbors about rising costs.

  • Learn where candidates stand on wages and affordability.

  • Support local workers and small businesses.

  • Vote for leaders who prioritize working families.

Ethical Government

Why it matters here

When people lose trust in government, communities get more divided and less effective at solving real problems. We need public meetings, open records, and fair rules that make government easier to trust and harder to manipulate.

What we support
  • Transparent decision-making and open meetings.

  • Fair elections and fair maps.

  • Limits on big money in politics.

  • Strong ethics rules, including no stock trading by elected officials.

What you can do
  • Support ethical, transparent candidates.

  • Stay engaged and vote in every election.

  • Show up at public meetings.

  • Back reforms that reduce corruption and restore trust.

Government should be honest, transparent, and accountable. Blue Beacons support leaders who tell the truth, follow the rules, and put regular people ahead of party politics and special interests.

A+ Public Schools

Every child deserves a strong public school. Blue Beacons support fully funded schools, competitive teacher pay, and safe, modern facilities that help students succeed.

Why it matters here

North Carolina ranks near the bottom in public school funding and teacher pay. In fast-growing counties like Brunswick, overcrowding and underinvestment make it harder to teach, learn, and attract the professionals our region needs.

What we support
  • New schools and expansions where growth is highest.

  • Better funding for classrooms, staff, and technology.

  • Competitive pay for teachers and support staff.

  • Safe, healthy buildings that families can trust.

What you can do
  • Attend school board and budget meetings.

  • Share your story about crowded or under-resourced schools.

  • Support bonds and school funding measures.

  • Vote for leaders who invest in public education.
